--- Simon Tam, Chief EditorWindows Vista is coming. Are you ready? There are some articles from TechRepublic that talks about Windows Vista, including :
In Cyberlab, we often need to prepare different operation systems like Windows, Linux for different courses. In addition, when the OS of the computer for a current class crashes, we need to restore it quickly, so, we have made a master image for different kinds of operating systems with applicaitons for different type of computers.
When needed, we just restore the image from a server to the target computer(s) via Ethernet. But, we are not using Ghost!
We are using an open source partition cloning tool called Partimage. It runs on Linux and is included in serveral CD-bootable Linux distributions like : SystemRescueCd and Knoppix. We are using SystemRescueCd in Cyberlab.
For more information and how to use partimage, please see :Want to try virtulization? Want to migrate your machines to be virtual machines? But tons of applications and services are installed on the machines? Reinstallation is a nightmare.
Now, VMware Converter can help you. VMware release its Converter 3.0 Beta. This converter can convert the systems in your physical machine to virtual images. This new version includes two previous tools: VMware P2V Assistant and Virtual Machine Importer.

VMware Converter can be downloaded free. Another enterprise charged edition providing batch converions and other features is availble.
