The production process of Ford Motor is as follow : By the production
line, there are different tool cases around each worker, in each of
which there are parts of the same kind. The job of the worker is to
mount the parts onto the automobiles. When the parts are going to be
run out, the worker needs to pick up a phone and tell the carrier what
kind of parts are running low and where is his position. Then the
warehouse operator will deliver the parts to him. Since this is a
manual operation process, it is very ineffective. Sometimes it takes
several hours to obtain the new parts, as a result, the production
efficiency is greatly affected. Fortunately, after they has attached
RFID labels onto the parts boxes, the situation has been
disappeared.
When the parts are
almost consumed, the worker only needs to push the RFID label on the
parts case. Then, it will send a signal to the forklift truck driver in
the warehouse. The computer can find out which part is needed to be
replenished, as well as the location of the parts case, by its unique
RFID. In this way, the driver can quickly replenish the parts and
update the parts stock record. This can greatly increase the accuracy
of the parts stock and can also prevent the situation of stopping the
production due to the lack of automobile parts.
After using RFID labels, Ford
Motor has gained noticeable improvement on production efficiency. For
the automobiles business, it is a very favorable competitive advantage
. If you are interested in RFID, or would like to know more case
